Dear friends of the Kombinat-Typefounders.

We have cause to celebrate. This year marks a decade since I started Kombinat-Typefounders, which seems like an excellent opportunity for our very first newsletter.

We have great news indeed: My long time compañero, the Berlin-based type designer Martin Wenzel, has finished his latest family of typefaces, Realist. I am very proud to distribute it, not just because it is a versatile piece of real craftsmanship, but because this family of typefaces has the kind of quiet beauty I want us to stand for.

Realist comes in three widths: Narrow, Normal and Wide. Each width is available in eight optical weights. That by itself is a huge variety of styles and, as any seasoned typographer will tell you, the granularity of variation Realist offers will basically prepare you for any eventuality. The real pièce de résistance, however, is the two stylistic variations contained in every single font of Realist, all fully accessible through an OpenType feature. These two flavors of the sans serif genre are personal interpretations of historical models, and Martin Wenzel calls them accordingly: Grotesk and Humanist.

Come visit our website and check out the type specimens.

Thanks,
Hannes Famira
