Martin Wenzel

Martin had his first typeface (FF Marten) published in the early nineties and has been designing new fonts ever since.

In 1993 he had moved to the Hague, the Netherlands, to study type and communication design. His first text typeface, FF Profile, was awarded by the Type Directors Club New York in 2000. Next to his type design expertise and his teaching in the field he’s been working as a communication designer and web developer for clients in Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark, India and the US.

After his degree and working in the Netherlands for further eight years (at Buro Petr van Blokland + Claudia Mens) he’s moved back to Berlin, his home town, in 2005.

Martin’s approach to type design is usually based on the principles of writing with the various writing tools. He has no interest in designing revivals but instead uses basic typographic design and construction principles as inspiration for new designs.
